Wonderland called Mysore ( a.k.a Mysuru )
Mysore ( a.k.a. Mysuru ) is the second largest city in Karanataka, India and located 146kms southwest of Bangalore ( a.k.a. Bengaluru ) and one of the major attractions for global and local tourists.
Mysore was the erstwhile capital of Wodeyar Rajas.
Mysore city is famous for the Navrathiri festival, sandal woodcarving, silk sarees and incense production.
Association with Hindu Mythology
According to Hindu mythology, the area around Mysore was known as Mahishūru and was ruled by a demon king, Mahishasura. The demon was killed by the Goddess Chamundeshwari, whose temple is situated atop the Chamundi Hills. Mahishūru later became Mahisūru and finally came to be called Mysuru.
Modern day Mysore
