The town of Srirangapatna, which derives its name from the temple, is located on an island in the river Kaveri. The temple is one of a set of three major temples that are built on three different islands on the Kaveri and are dedicated to lord Vishnu.
Srirangapatna is located 14kms from from Mysore and its located on the Mysore - Bangalore highway.
Apart from Sriranganathaswamy temple, Srirangapatna consists of Daria Daulat Bagh ( the summer palace of Tippu Sultan ), Gumbaz which consists of Tippu's tomb and his parents tombs.
